Journey into the world of stones, rocks, crystals, gems, fossils, dust and stars.
The first edition is of 1980; after many years, every line continues to be fresh and present-day. Its contents, like the stones, never seems to grow old. A reading on stones in general, and in particular on the precious ones. It is not a scientific treatise, but when it enters into technical problems, it willingly argues with official science, the latter often dominated by the “needs” of the market. It is not a book of magic, although many chapters appear as such. It is not a historical essay; for stones, old as the world, the “human story” is a transitory accident of little consequence. It is an anthology of stories or fairy tales; however, I had to tell ancient stories and invent new ones in order to represent the emotions evoked by glistening pebbles. It is not a book of poetry, but the beauty of stones is such that only poetry can tempt to approach it. Perhaps, it is not even a job of our time, although problems of ecology, economy, technocracy, have lived with the drama required by the current troubled historical times. This book is a journey; a journey into the world of stones, rocks, crystals, gems, fossils, dust and stars. A journey into a poetic dimension of a gemcutter.
